Built 1902 in Holland of steel with a timber decking she was a sail powered cargo vessel. In 1915 she was seized as a prize of war by the British and used as a Q-Ship during WWI, at the end of WWI she worked as a coal, produce and stone carrying vessel between Liverpool and Scottish Ports.
Solway Lass provides guests with the opportunity to experience sailing as it was a century ago. Guests are welcome to assist the crew hoist the sails and steer the ship, or otherwise just relax on the huge decks and take in the views the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park provides. Lay in the bow net while the water washes 12ft below and onto the bow.

The following itinerary is an example of a scheduled cruise. All cruises are subject to weather and tidal conditions and the Captain’s professional judgement in putting together the best itinerary to keep guests happy, safe and well.
After check-in, guests are welcome to leave their luggage in our office. Guests may then explore Airlie Beach, grab a bite to eat, enjoy a walk along the beach. Meeting point is Able Point Marina at 5pm, Solway Lass departs the marina at 5.30pm then sails to your you first night’s anchorage to enjoy sunset drinks before dinner is served.
Have breakfast on board as you travel to Tongue Bay. From here you will be brought to the beach and be given time to visit Hill Inlet and the north end of Whitehaven Beach. Come back onboard after a few hours of exploration for lunch as the boat then sails North. Once arriving near the north of Hook Island there will be the possibility of either a snorkel or a sunset beach stroll. Spend the second night in a safe anchorage nearby, such as Stonehaven.
The final morning will be spent snorkelling in another one of the northern bays, leading on to the final sail back to Airlie Beach, arriving back at the marina 2.30pm.
Departs: 4.00 pm Tuesday, Friday and Sunday from Coral Sea Marina, Airlie Beach
Returns: 1.00 pm on Day 3

What to Bring: clothes, towel, toiletries, hat, swimwear, sunscreen, jacket/sweater, camera, sunglasses, runners or sandals for island walks, alcohol and soft drinks. Guests can bring your own alcohol, no glass or red wine please. Soft drinks are sold on board, but guests may bring their own. Guests are asked to limit luggage. Please pack in soft sided zipless bag. We provide dry bags hire; for a deposit of $50 (cash only) which will be refunded on return. We also provide luggage storage at the Explore Whitsundays Reservations Office for $10 per person.
