TopAdditional Information

How Much Experience: If you can drive a car, you'll certainly be able to drive a motor boat. No licence is required to take a Skipper Yourself Boating Holiday. To sail a yacht or catamaran, you will need some experience at the helm of a yacht, big or small. A little general boating experience is usually enough for Whitsunday Rent-A-Yacht to teach you to operate a motor cruiser during your briefing. For those who are unsure of their skills or a little rusty they offer the services of a qualified sail guide to help you get started.

Trip Preparation: On arrival at the charter base you will be introduced to your sail briefer. He or she will give you a thorough overview of all aspects of the operation of the vessel both below and above decks. Next comes a very comprehensive Familiarisation on all aspects of navigating through the islands, weather conditions and suitable anchorages. This is also a good time to enquire about any specific interests you may have (diving/fishing locations, walking tracks, island resorts to visit, etc.). Finally you will be taken for a sail to see that you are fully conversant and confident with the operation of your vessel. The briefer are all qualified and are happy to provide your crew with plenty of sailing and boat handling tips and training. Your vessel briefing normally takes around 3 hours.

Provisioning the Vessel: You may choose to supply your own provisions, although a provisioning company can do this for you, catering from gourmet delights to children's meals. Whitsunday Rent A Yacht chooses the award-winning Whitsunday Provisioning to look after provisioning. Basic essentials in the galley are supplied (sponges, matches, detergent, paper towels, insect repellent, garbage bags, toilet paper, guest soap, air freshener). The nearest supermarket is at Cannonvale, which is 15 kilometres from the charter base.

Excludes: Great Barrier Reef Marine Park fee, damage levy fee, meals and drinks, sail guide and host/cook, fuel.

Optional Extras: Sail guide and provisioning for meals and drinks.

What to bring: Apart from food and clothing all vessels come completely equipped right down to snorkelling gear. We recommend light personal clothing, a book, camera and possibly a tracksuit for the cooler months of the year (June-September). A good hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are a must. Evening wear on all resorts is neat casual, children's life jackets.

Marine Park Fee: A Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Fee plus associated charges is applicable to all charterers and is payable in full prior to departure. Cost is $20 per person.

Deposit: A$750 deposit is required within 14 days of making your booking to secure your charter.

Damage Levy Fee: Non refundable Damage Levy Fee provides the charterer with a No Blame Policy that protects the charterer against any cost incurred to rectify damage to the vessel and its fittings or loss of inventory from the vessel, providing at all times the charter vessel is operated in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with the charter agreement. The fee is calculated at a rate according to vessel size by the number of nights (to a maximum of 7 nights) the vessel is on charter. Cost 28ft to 34ft - $35 per boat per night, 35ft to 38ft - $40 per boat per night, 39ft to 50ft - $45 per boat per night.

Cancellations: Cancellation fees and conditions apply once a booking is confirmed, charters cancelled 60 days inside will only be considered for a refund only if we find a substitute booking. Fuel is charged on all vessels on a user pay system paid at end of charter.

Travel Insurance: Full cover for fares, accommodation and charter fees is available for a little extra cost. We strongly recommend that you insure against having to cancel for reasons beyond your control. Overseas clients should arrange cover before leaving their home country.

Regulations: Contact to be made with each vessel twice daily, at 08.00 & 16.00. During the schedule we will keep you informed of weather forecasts, special events and provide information or advice about your proposed anchorages.
